Amelia Kicks Her Curves

Meet Amelia, a brave 15 year old, passionate footballer suffering from severe idiopathic scoliosis – an abnormal curvature of the spine.

Recently, Moving Forward Sports has been getting behind a cause very close to our hearts; Amelia Kicks Her Curves.

Amelia and her family have been active members of the football community - both as fans and players - for a long time, and Moving Forward Sports were extremely moved to hear about Amelia’s plight.

After being diagnosed with idiopathic scoliosis (a painful, serious condition which has caused a development of a rare, double twist in her spine), Amelia’s dreams of becoming a professional footballer were put in peril. For an active, ambitious young lady this was terrible news.

However, there is hope. An innovative operation called Vertebral Body Tethering would enable Amelia to maintain her active passion pain free, and pursue her future goals. The problem is the surgery is not currently available through the NHS, and will cost Amelia and her family £81,283.

Moving Forward Sports has been helping in any way we can. We were delighted to be able to use our expertise to supply custom made t-shirts (to help the guys stand out from the crowd while out fundraising out on the terraces) and for all the players to wear during the Birmingham City Women’s game training.

Also, the #AmeliaKicksHerCurves gang were kind enough to cut the ribbon on our official showroom grand opening day! The grand opening also featured an exclusive prize draw which, along with the added generosity of our open evening special guests, raised over £450 towards Amelia’s goal.

Everyone has been getting behind Amelia, and her cause has been gaining support from all sides. Recently, she was invited to the Trillion Trophy Training Centre by Birmingham City FC to meet her favourite players, Lucy Staniforth and Jacques Maghoma, and receive a signed shirt after spending the morning watching the women’s team training.

Furthermore, just this week, Amelia and her mum Lisa appeared on Good Morning Britain, where England footballer Rachel Yankey surprised Amelia and offered some inspirational words of encouragement.

Moving Forward Sports are delighted to aid this cause, and we wish Amelia all the luck in the world in pursuing her dreams. Please give generously too if you are able, and help Amelia reach her important goal.
