Keeping Fit At Home

KEEPING+FIT+%283%29.jpg

With all that’s going on at the moment, it can be hard to think of ways to keep fit and active whilst stuck at home. But, don’t fret! Moving Forward Sports is on hand to share some fantastic ways to get that blood pumping - without even leaving the house!

We know that participating in team sports is one of the BEST ways to keep fit and healthy, as well as being a fun, competitive activity for the whole family to enjoy. However, gatherings of more than a few people - and with those outside of your household - are not allowed at the moment, so where does that leave us?…

Thinking outside the box, that’s where! Starting with one brilliant idea which has delighted parents and keep-fit fanatics alike…

P.E. Lessons With Joe Wicks

Starting Monday 20th March, Joe Wicks (‘The Body Coach’) has taken YouTube by storm and created a special series of full, half hour P.E lessons to get the nation moving! Everyday at 9am you can tune in and follow along with Joe’s daily exercise routine - a sure fire way to get that heart pumping and the perfect first lesson in the homeschooling rota!

Check out Joe’s YouTube page - subscribe and make sure not to miss a lesson (no ‘forgot my kit’ excuses accepted!)

Toilet Roll Challenge

We know too well that all football - as well as every other sport - has been put on hold for the time being. But, there’s no need to have that dampen our spirits too much. With the boredom setting in for some of our favourite players, they have come up with a fun activity that you can try at home!…

The #stayathomechallenge has gone viral on social media, and - if you can get your hands on a toilet roll these days - you can join in on the fun too.

Football stars - including Lionel Messi, Thierry Henry and more - have been trying their hand (or, foot!) at toilet paper keepie-uppies! Check out how well they did… Can you beat their record? Get your kit on, tag your #stayathomechallenge videos with @MFSportsUK and let’s show them who the champions are…

Time For A Spring Clean?

Corners a little dusty? When was the last time you vacuumed behind the sofa? Wonder how the top of the kitchen cabinets are looking…

We all have little jobs to do around the house that we keep putting off until later. What better time to get around to them all, and get in a good workout in at the same time!

Now, you might not get any fitness benefits from flicking around a feather duster, but a deep clean might do the trick… Scrub out that oven, get some elbow grease on those windows, lug that hoover around the place - it all counts towards your recommended 2 and a half hours (yep, that’s right!) of moderate exercise per week.

Gardening too! The weather’s pretty nice for this time of year, why not make the most of it - get active and get some fresh air at the same time?

Push Up Challenge

Another one for all you competitive, social media fans. The #pushupchallange involves filming yourself doing ten push-ups and then tagging ten friends to do the same. Some people up their game by having something heavy on their back - your kid, a pet, the wife (not that she’s heavy! - we don’t want to get in any trouble here…).

Some are doing it one handed, or in fun spots around the house. Get creative, and see whose form and stamina is best (but DON’T hurt yourselves!).

Dancing

Keeping your spirits up whilst in lockdown can be difficult. Exercise can help, and there is almost no more fun way to get in a workout than with music! Get the family together, crank up the Spotify playlist and get grooving…

Depending on your weight, you could burn over 400 calories an hour through dancing - perhaps even a few more if you throw in some karaoke (not sure if that’s scientifically proven…?).

Plus, there are loads of online dance workouts to follow - Zumba, Hip Hop, Latin, you name it. Have a look around online and pick your favourite. You might even be an expert by the time the football’s back on, ready to show off your new goal celebration moves on the pitch.

Quick Workouts

If you think outside the box, there are so many ways to get in your exercise without venturing outside. A couple of goes up and down the stairs to get your legs moving, baked bean tins as weights to pump up those arms, playing twister with the kids to work on that core - not to mention the classics - sit ups, star jumps, planking, running on the spot.

Let us know what you’re doing to keep fit at home! And remember to stay active, stay hydrated and - most importantly - stay safe!
